AS50 Challenge... #9



9. Red Velvet Stays (6/2009)based on the stays found with Eleanora d'Toledo's burial clothes. I buy 5m of canvas/heavy denimn every few years. This was bought about 4 years previously.

8. Soccaccia (pocket) - cream and gold for largess. Soccaccia are pockets or pouches which are thought to have been worn under the dress, over the underskirt. Pictorial examples can be found in Moda Firenza. There are also drawings of some worn over the dress,at home, documentation of one found with the burial dress of Eleanora d'Toledo, an extant Spanish example online and pictures in the Pitti museum which have more recenlty published in the latest Janet Arnold book.

7. Gold Pleated Partlet - based on Portrait of a WOman, 1550-65 by Allesandro Allori, found at the Uffuzi Museum in Florence. The material for this was bought, with a length of dark silver, silk gorgette. The thread used to sew it, was threads pulled from the material itself. I did have to purchase the fine chain decoration.

6. Nightcap: Elizabethan Men's - exercise to learn speckling. The linen and silk thread were from stash. The spangles were given to me many years ago and waiting for a project.

5. 16th C Tuscan woman (35-40 years old) Bonetto from Vecellio

At the time, I was having problems finding buckram to make the base, so bought a cheapo shop 'cardboard' hat which ws the only item bought fro this project. The velvet and trim were left over from previous projects. Lining and petersham tape were also left over. The hat was handsewn.











4. 2008 Mouse Guard Pouch. This is a Lochac award given to children. The linen and threads were from stash. The cord was hand-knitted from crochet cord, again from stash.

3. 2008; Black linen Tudor. This was based on the portrait of a Young Woman in the style of Hans Holbein, found in the New York Metropolitan Museum.



The black and red linen were from stash. The beads for the neckline and for the aglets were also from stash. This dress was later remade into an Italian, and currently more Spanish dress.
